A Trip to the Zoo + A Little Mom Fear Conquered

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Yesterday I decided to be brave (or maybe more normal) and bring the boys to the San Diego Zoo by myself.  And by myself I mean without another friend, my mom, my sister or my husband to help out if the craziness gets out of control.  Because lets be honest Ronin's temper tantrums can be quite terrifying if you are by yourself, out in public with no where to go and everyone is staring at you like you are secretly pulling out your son's eyelashes (I promise I'm not). But sometimes you just gotta do things by yourself to realize you can, you know?

The three of us had a blast!  It was a chilly day, which I think makes for the perfect zoo walking around weather.  The last time I went to the zoo was when Max was around Ronin's age and I have finally decided that yes, the zoo might be a little "sad" for all those wild animals but I truly believe it is such a wonderful educational place for kids.  Without the zoo my boys might never get to see all the animals that we talk about almost daily.

I think the boys favorite animals were the elephants and the lions.  There was quite a bit of noise making coming out of them as we passed those ones :)

And on a side note, I posted a picture of us all at the zoo yesterday on my Instagram and um yikes.  I am pretty sure I was was losing followers by the second  (I noticed after a while).  Maybe zoo pictures are just not that cool, which makes me want to post even more now ;) I love the zoo!

So here are a few pictures from our day...

At this very moment Max said, heyyy girafffffe!" And the giraffe turned his head and looked at him.  Maybe a coincidence but it made his day!

You are a brave woman to take them both all on your own! I haven't tried it yet with my son on our own with fear I'll need a serious nap after!

I can't believe people unfollowed you for posting zoo pictures?! I loved your photos and my kids love the zoo. We usually buy a year's pass so that if the kids are cranky and want to leave after an hour then that's fine we can just come back another day.

It IS empowering after a successful trip out with the kiddos by yourself... Okay, maybe successful isn't the best term. I feel like if I go out with my girls and we all come back (aka no lost children) and we're alive, I can be proud ;)

I don't even know how many followers I have on instagram. I feel like I'm lucky my family doesn't unfollow me some days. Who cares, it's fun!

wow mama! good job. the san diego zoo is gigantic! did you guys get through most of it? i've been wanting to take the family down for a trip now that our youngest is over a year. we're in the san luis obispo area (about 6 hours north of you). so it's a journey to get down there, but it's a fun getaway. hope you guys had a blast!

First, yay Lindsay for making the trek out with the two littles. I is so ridiculously HARD - especially at this age I think. I have minor panic attacks every time I leave the house with them both. Second, next time you come, let me know...we'll meet you there! :) Would love to meet Max and Ronin! Third, that is kind of funny that people unfollowed you because of the zoo. I know that some people have strong feelings about keeping animals in zoos, but I mean what are they accomplishing by unfollowing YOU? People are funny. I'm so happy you all had a fantastic time!

Hopefully not too creepy, but we totally saw you at the zoo yesterday. I remember thinking how cute your little guy looked in his grey chucks

LOL - I would NEVER got to the zoo by myself. Or anywhere else like that. Arcade. Bouncy house. Anything fun. The only place the kids go with me alone is the grocery store (if it's an emergency and I HAVE to take them) or simple errands.

there was a hot year long period where the only way i could get my little guy into his car seat was to basically fold his legs up as close to his chest as possible so he couldn't do a complete back bend out of his car seat - then pin him down with my shoulder and my hand between his legs so he couldnt slide out of the car seat - then buckle a 5 point harness with my other hand as he pulled my hair and SCREAMED - EVERY TIME WE WENT ANYWHERE-- the process always ended with me sitting on the bumper of the car crying -- and i tried different car seats - but he would do it in anything with a harness- for anyone trying to buckle him in - it was horrible -- but eventually he grew out of it - now he is a little older and understands if he doesnt go in his car seat he doesnt go anywhere -- i still have severe car seat PTSD and hold my breath every time i have to go anywhere because the melt downs were that bed -- just saying ive been there with the screaming kid - good job to you !!!!! glad you had a great trip

I like the zoo, but I really LOVE the wild animal park more! Except its bigger, so way more walking. That giraffe had such a cool look on his face! I feel bad about animals in cages too, but those big kitty's look very happy and relaxed. Glad there were no tantrums! Did you see the polar bears?!
