Who remembers Shake N Bake Chicken?! Woa woa woa that stuff was good! It's like the best artificially tasting coated chicken meal ever ha! Well the other evening I decided to try and come up with a healthy version of the (not so healthy) classic. HOLY Shake N Bake this tuned out awesome!
What you will need:
- 1-2 pounds of chicken strips
- 1/2 cup of nutritional yeast
- 1/2 cup of almond meal
- 1/4 tsp of garlic salt
- 1/4 tsp of pepper
- Preheat over to 350 degrees
- Place everything inside of a freezer size zip lock bag.
- Shake shake shake it up until each chicken piece is evenly coated.
- Place the coated pieces of chicken in an oven safe dish and bake uncovered for 30 minutes.
- Enjoy!
This has the perfect amount of crunch on the outside, it's super moist on the inside and so much good for you flavor your taste buds will do a happy dance. Even my husband said, "This IS Shake N Bake!" This is also virtually carb free because it is made with almond meal instead of flour. So eat up!

YUM! I love chicken and I totally remember having Shake N Bake when I was a kid!
Love Shake an Bake...actually made a recipe similar to this...you can coat the chicken in Dijon mustard, then add in rosemary to the crushed almonds. Really good.
YUM! I loved this stuff and am ALWAYS looking for healthy alternatives :)
I have NEVER tried shake n' bake.. mainly because I have heard one too many jokes about it! But this looks and sounds delicious!! I will have to give it a go :)
Used to love Shake N Bake as a kid. Haven't even thought to use it again as an adult. Will definitely be trying this recipe. I need to spruce up my chicken since i HATE it!

Shake and Bake reminds me of helping in the kitchen as a kid...a cooking jobs that was safe and fun!
These make me so happy! I bought some nutritional yeast and almond meal last time I was at Wegman's (an hour away!) and I just looked at the yeast yesterday thinking about what I would do with it! Thanks!
This sounds fantabulous!! I've been looking for a good healthy chicken recipe, most chicken is usually end up eating is either fried or McNuggets (which I love so much) and for some reason just plain grilled chicken breasted is boring to me, I love ranch with my chicken no matter how hard I try not to put some on. Thanks fir posting! ;)
yumm looks so delicious! Can't wait to try this recipe. I recently wrote a post on my blog about grain free, gluten free & vegan cookies/cakes found @ whole foods. healthyhappylivin.wordpress.com
Funny! I have a whole post about shake n bake potatoes! http://www.theluckypennyblog.com/2011/11/my-favorite-roast-vegetables.html
I'm adding this chicken to my weekly meal plan for the week!
I am so embarrassed to ask but since I don't cook that often I don't know lol, but around what degree to you set the oven for?
These look delicious & I love Shake N Bake! I always had a problem with the coating falling off when I cooked it so I had to dip the chicken in egg first. It looks like yours stayed on fine. Did you do anything special like keep the chicken wet vs. pat drying it?
