These Are The Good Ole Days
Monday, January 14, 2013
Yesterday my husband and I drove down to LA to spend the day with family and to celebrate his Great Grandma's 91st Birthday. On the car ride down there both boys were fast asleep and snoring away. I am the (annoying) type who likes to fill silence with talking so I began to talk. We started talking about our upcoming anniversary (it will be 6 years in June) and began reminiscing about "The Good Ole Days." We were talking about before we had kids and had no real responsibilities. We were bringing up memories like the time when I lived in Huntington Beach and we bought a cheap bottle of vodka (cheap vodka sucks by the way), got a nice buzz on, and then rode our bikes (I do not recommend this ha) to the beach and laid out in the sun all day just talking about whatever we wanted, without any interruptions...or diaper changes.
I looked backed at my kids to check on them and I realized that right now and at that exact moment are the good ole days. I would not want to be anywhere else except in my car with my husband, my 7 month old and my two year old. I realized that one day, not too far away I will look back and ask my husband, "Remember when we had those two little monkeys sitting in the backseat sleeping in their car seats? Those were the good ole days."
We spent the rest of the day at my husband's beautiful Aunt's house (complete with a bird aviary) and I soaked up every moment and decided to never "wish" for the good ole days again...because they are here. Diaper changes and all.

lovely post and pictures :)
Beautiful photos, beautiful post! I think the same thing all the time! In fact it makes me panic a little because I already look back to last year and did myself Geary eyed about Sonething j remember of the kids!!!
Great post...thanks for this reminder. My hubs and I do that a lot too; wishing we could lay on the couch and watch TV all day instead of having to play kitchen or cars with our 21 month old. But you are right - these are the best days and it is going SO fast...need to cherish it now. Thanks again for this great post!
Your bike memory made me laugh because I have memories just like that. I wouldn't recommend it either, but those were fun times =D This was such a great post.
Ah Lindsay love this post. You are so right. I actually tend to think that every phase of our life is the "good ole days." I think it's a sign that you are living a full and complete life. :)
I am so not a bird person but an aviary...that is pretty cool! We don't have kids yet but I know so many of our friend with kids can't even remember what life was like before kids. They don't want to either. How sweet :))
Beautiful post!

I was having a rough day wi tj my two year old yesterday and at this moment she is sleeping curled up next to me and im thankful she is even here two year old tantrums and all much more fun then partys and a cheap bottle of vodka !!! You Lindsay could not have said it better.

You just gave me chills... this is why it is so important to appreciate the now. Because now is the time we are creating the good ole days :) Love this! XO Brynn
SUCH adorable pictures.
Right you are! I am trying to do better about appreciating "us" time, and not being so consumed with when we have a baby. Good post! :)
this is so true. i often feel that young kids can make people feel so alive, so in love, so young, when they look back. but the memories that came before - the cheap vodka and tipsy bike rides - they're not too shabby either. but a full life, that's what it's all about.
They're so cute
Although I don't have kids, sometimes I also find myself thinking of those good ole days and then I tell myself to snap out of it and just enjoy the beautiful present that I'm living.
That first photo with your little boy is so adorable!
This post made me so excited because you talked about living in Orange County! I just found your blog and was browsing through your posts and literally "eeked" when I read H.B.! I live in Anaheim Hills so it always makes me happy when a blogger I like is from So. Cal!
Love your blog!
