What Music Makes You Move?

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Who is with me and can not run or workout without a seriously awesome playlist? I need music to run. I also hate talking while running...just gonna throw that out there. It gets me out of my groove and it's just annoying. I recently discussed this with my friend who is training with me for the half marathon and whew so glad we are on the same page. There is nothing like saying, "Can you please SHUT your yapper so I can run?" Ya you can't really say that. Well you can...but it might make for a very awkward workout.

So since I know there will be no chit chatting I need some serious motivating jams to add to my running playlist. I figured what better place to get some suggestions...

So I would love to hear what makes you MOVE! I have the most eclectic taste in music so anything goes. I will share my official marathon playlist (with your suggestions) once I get it put together.

I have to admit that I like to listen to really bad dance music lol. I put a dance station on my pandora and go with it.

I have a really eclectic mix on my workout playlist but I really love Norwegian Recycling. He does great mash-ups of all types of songs but because you can never really sure what to expect next it keeps me on my toes and that is a necessity when I am working out. Also, Florence and the Machine, I never get sick of dog days.

i don't know if it's good for running, but i ALWAYS choose spice girls for my strength training/dancing sessions... because strength training and dancing go hand in hand, yo

I'm a sucker for old school jams! You Rock My World by Michael Jackson always helps get me going.

I've started listening to audiobooks while I run. The better they are, the more motivated you are to keep running!

so funny, I LOVE chatting with my friends when I got for a run! It makes the time pass by so fast and really kills two birds with one stone---catching up and getting in a run!

I have to have music when I run so I have so many 'running' playlists on my ipod. My favourite track has to be 'Footloose' though - it makes me want to jump in the air!

Kelly Clarkson's "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)" song, although on some days it also makes me cry. So I look like an idiot...spinning, sweating and crying all at the same time. Or Pink's "Perfect"

I am a little embarrassed to admit this, but when I'm working out/running, I get super amped listening to Hip Hop...specifically, Eminem or Missy Elliot. Seeing as how I listen to worship music 95% of the time at home, in my car and at work, this is a little unusual. ;)

But oh my, Eminem has carried me through MANY 5Ks and 10Ks. :)

it's basically top 40 and jay-z. with a good sprinkling of la bouche and real mccoy and 80's madonna.

Everyone has already mentioned my favorites. It's funny that music I normally wouldn't listen to *only* works for running :)

Please Don't Stop the Music - Rhiana
I wanna Go - Brittany Spears
Stronger - Kanye
Anything by Eminem
And anything upbeat by Lady Gaga

When not working out, it's just country music 'round these parts!

My Body by Young the Giant. Words AND beat keep me going.
My Insanity tapes just arrived. Thanks for the push. My son wants me to earn the t-shirt!

music is SO important to me in every way...and is especially needed for a solid workout! my current workout playlist is made up of a guilty pleasure of mine...indie girly pop. i am typically not a pop girl, especially not main stream...but i can't deny that the beats get me movin'. my playlist includes music by queen of hearts, florrie, oh land, & little boots, just to name a few ;) XO brynn

Check Yes, Juliet is my favorite, since the words are about running too, but I second the Footloose mention. I always smile when it comes on. The Distance by Cake has a great beat, and Dog Days are Over by Florence and the Machine has running lyrics as well--wait for the chorus. The Killers have two that I like, Human and Mr. Brightside. WAvin' Flag by K'naan and We Belong Together from Glee get me singing, and Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire has so much variety that it's really interesting when it comes up. I can't talk either, and my friends think I'm crazy for liking to run alone with my music! Good luck! These got me through my half marathon this summer.

Meatloaf... and the soundtrack to "The Gladiator" have been my 'go-to' for when I need music to make me move, but right now I'm taking a professional development course on audio, so during a REALLY great workout, I get to listen to a couple guys talk about risk management and identification.

(way exciting!) I often listen to audiobooks too though; I get so little 'me' time that I have to compress it all together like a diamond.

My new favorites are Home by the American idol guy and Big Parade by The Lumineers.
