Gettin Your Groove Back *A new way of eating*

I would be lying if I said that I wasn't a little bummed out every time I try on my (non stretchy) pre-pregnancy jeans and they wont budge past my butt. I have tried to squeeze myself in them and I end up with that weird butt cleavage that you spot on Glamour's "Don't List." Not a good look. Since you can't suck in your butt I just have to wear stretchy jeggings until they fit again. I refuse to buy bigger clothes.

In an effort to somewhat shrink my larger behind I have gotten really serious about my diet. Because I am nursing I still need to be eating a good amount of nutrient rich foods and cant afford to cut back too much on calories since I know it will lower my milk supply. Eating healthy and low carb is already a priority in my life because I am type 1 diabetic but since I am determined to get back to my old self I recently realized it may be time to make a few changes.

This past month I have decided to go full Paleo. The Paleo Diet aka the caveman diet encourages you to replace dairy and grain with fresh fruits and vegetables. What I love about this way of eating is calorie counting is not encouraged. Awesome right? Basically you eat more (nutritious foods) and weigh less. It really is more of a healthy way of living compared to just a diet that you do for a few months. Since I already do not eat wheat and grain products I figured this would be a no brainier. Yes I do love my cheese and frozen yogurt so this was a little hard, but honestly I have never felt better. If you want to learn a little more you can read this post, which has some really great information.

So far I have noticed I feel less bloated, I have more energy (so important with two little boys) and my skin is the clearest it has ever been. Do I think this is for everyone? Absolutely not. I am just sharing what is working for me.

Are you currently cutting anything out in order to feel a little healthier? I would love to hear what's working for you.

Good for you Linds! One of my friends is full primal, which I think is pretty close to paleo and she loves it. I'm loving these posts...they are motivating me to get my butt in gear!

I love this idea. I've been, I guess, doing this, without realizing it for a while. I stuff my face with veggies!

I bake far too much, and am way too attached to butter, flour and sugar! But it could be a step in the right direction for me. I hear that drinking 6-8 glasses (250mL) of water when you wake up, before you eat, and before you go to bed will help kick start your metabolism and help you lose weight as well.

This post came at the best time! My skin has been breaking out like crazy and I was looking into changing my diet but didn't know where to start. I'm totally going to try this! LOVE your blog, girl!

Good for you Lindsay! I too am really trying to watch more of what I eat, and making sure I eat (I was sooo bad about skipping meals). And, hubby bought me a new recumbent bike for my birthday, so I now have a way to excercise at home (I am not a fan of the gym). I love fruits and veggies, so this would be a good thing to look into. Now to give up that fresh bread! UGH!!!

I started a new diet a little over a week ago and I am already feeling better. It is different than yours, although I can eat dairy, I can't eat any flour, sugar, butter/oil, etc. So far, it isn't as hard as I thought.

Good for you! You're pretty much already paleo anyway. I've cut grains other than bread for lunch…and not everyday, but obviously I need to cut it out completely. I LOVE cereal and I just can't eat cereal with anything other than skim milk. I've tried. So, I'm trying to take it one thing at a time. But, I find myself eating "paleo" meals without trying a lot.

Ah good for you Lindsay. I've heard that this diet works for a lot of people, so I'm interested to see how it goes for you. :) Did you have a nice weekend?

Good for you! I've heard a lot of people rave about this diet. I've cut out sugar recently - at least, refined sugar. I still eat lots of fruit since it's the only thing that comes close to satisfying my crazy sweet tooth. I'm trying to limit myself to 1 dessert a week and, with the exception of last week, I've done it successfully for two months now. I definitely notice that I feel less bloated and my energy is more steady throughout the day. But I still miss cookies...

Good for you! Paleo is tough. I recommend Pilates for a post pregnancy work out that could be a good compliment to your paleo. It really tightens up those stomach muscles and gives you lean, longer muscles, plus its not one of those insane crazy workouts where you are sweating and panting.

the time where i felt my BEST was when i followed the 80/10/10 diet- you definitely should look into it (and even though you are type 1, i think you can still follow the program since you arent consuming any fat to clog your bloodstream and inhibit sugar absorption)... BUT, i cannot do that ALL the time.. lately, i've been sort of "off the wagon", diet wise. but i'm starting a personal training program next week, so its time for me to give up the dairy that is my crutch (i'm a vegetarian)... i know, because i've done it before, that giving up dairy makes me feel AWESOME- and eating all fruit meals gives me so much energy!

yay- you just motivated me to get my butt back in shape... thanks girl...

and, also, you have two beautiful children- who gives a shit about jean size?! i'd live in leggings ANYWAY because i imagine they are much more comfortable chasing babies around... you'll get there mama (: i know you will

I'd like to try the Paleo diet as I've heard so many great things about it.... Right after I eat this block of cheese! ;-)

Seriously, though. You've inspired me! When I get back from vacation, I'm going to try it! Keep us updated.

First of all, I think you look flipping fantastic; there was a photo you posted on IG (I think the first day back at the gym?) and I thought to myself: "Daaaannnnnngggggg, girl...!" But anyway. :)

Good for you for trying to lose weight the RIGHT way - replacing the grains and dairy with healthier choices. I have never been able to give up dairy (oh man, I love cheese too much), but I do think it's good to challenge ourselves often. I've done my own 6-week "detox" program twice in the last year (cut out carbs, sugar, caffeine and booze) and have always felt incredible physically/emotionally afterwards. I just finished a 3-week program and had a couple martinis this weekend and I swear I feel bloated today. :-\

I'm definitely going to read more about this program, though!

After reading the article you posted on your blog I am going to try a Paleo lifestyle. I have already given up dairy and now onto grains. This will be a bit challenging but so worth it.

Good for you! In May of this year, I decided to cut out cereal grains, soy, and sugar. I do just a bit of dairy and preferably raw dairy when I do. I've lost close to 30 pounds and totally do not count calories. I am taking a nutrition approach to complement the chemo I am currently undergoing (for a second time). Last week, I hired a personal trainer to get me back on track with weight training. Besides the ultimate goal of kicking my cancer to the curb (FOREVER), I would like to get down to a single digit clothing size for the first time in my adult life (I was wearing a size 9 at age 13; I am now 55).

Good for you Lindsay! It would be tough for me too to give up the dairy. I am currently working on cutting the carbs in my diet. I always eat whole grain but still my body absorbs it like no other. I know in the past when I give that up I drop the weight.

I can not wait for some paleo recipes! I am 5 weeks on Paleo and I feel wonderful and am having more happy energy than ever. It also lends to being creative in the kitchen and that excites me more than anything!

I've briefly heared of this diet before but have never really looked too much into it. I've recently cut out meat from my diet and its made such a difference. I can only imagine what I would feel like if I eliminated dairy and wheat! I may just have to give this a try.

I know there are a lot of differing Paleo diet plans but I have read that you can have yogurt because it's a fermented food. So I cut out all dairy except my greek yogurt which I sometimes eat frozen;)I just found your blog and love your recipes.
