It has been a little while since I did a pin-tester and when I saw a pin that stated you could make your own air fresheners with just about any scent you want I was sold.
This pin came from a blog called The Burlap Bag.
What you will need:
- Baking soda
- Essential Oil. I used lavender (my favorite).
- Mason jar or container with a lid
- Pour about 1/4 cup of baking soda into your jar.
- Add about 8-10 drops of essential oil.
- Poke holes in the top of the lid. The original source used foil but I wanted mine to look a little more esthetically pleasing so I used a nail and hammered little holes in the mason jar lid.
- Shake it up a little and you are done!

Awesome, you better believe I am doing this!! Thanks girl. ;)
I had not heard of using baking soda with essential oil. I have heard of using vodka (yes vodka) in a spray bottle with it however.
I tried this and had the same results.
Not as strong as expected but I feel like it still did something. If anything I'm hoping the baking soda at least sucked up some of the "bad" in the air. ;)
I've seen this and was wondering how effective it would be, thanks for sharing!
I have all of these things…I might have to try this. I wonder if filling up most of the jar would make the scent stronger in a larger area?
Maybe a dumb question, but where do you get your oils? I have 2 cats and 2 kids, my house always smells of something and not the good something :)
Ok, I think I've found my next diy project. I have the hardest time finding a scent I actually like for the bathroom, so making my own sounds kind of perfect.
baking soda is awesome! i have been using it for so many other things besides baking. thanks for testing out this pinterest project for us
AND it's super cute! Love the mason jar.
That seems simple enough, I would love to give this a try. I bet you could even dress up the mason jar with a pretty ribbon or something else. Thanks for sharing Linds!
this sounds good & very easy to make!
i might try it too!
i did this exact thing a few months ago! and i've had it in my bathroom closet where our cat litter is... and where it... still smells like cat litter :) but sometimes i shake it up and shake some out onto the cat litter because it certainly can't hurt! i love baking soda. and i super double triple love lavender.
Sounds wonderful! You could try all different oil scents.
Glad to hear the verdict. I always pin a thousand DIY things like this but have yet to tackle most. However, I would love for corners of my house to be bursting with lavender.
I think we all read the same pin :)
I made mine using a glass yoghurt pot (cost: $0 as I would have chosen his yoghurt for lunch anyway) and for the "lid", I cut a round piece of fabric (the same one that it everywhere in my apartment, from curtains to shopping bag holder to little baggies), tied that with a rubber band and covered the band with a ribbon.
Oh and I used lemon grass EO, that way my bathroom can smell like summer all year long

Your bottle in the picture does not look like it has 1/4th cup of soda. Are you sure you have used only 1/4 cup.
You do not need to use a mason jar... I save all mine for canning. Recycle any little jar (olive, pimento, jam)with a lid. Paint the lid a pretty color and work your magic.
Another good place to put something like this would be in the car. Put in your cupholder instead of trying to find somewhere to hang those little cardboard trees. LOL

Have tried before...not very potent but a good source for a better non-chemical smell good. Thanks.
