I was recently browsing around on Etsy and I spotted
this beautiful necklace. I was instantly inspired and since it was made out of polymer clay I knew I wanted to recreate it myself. Here is how I did it...
What you will need:
- 2 polymer clay colors
- Waxed cotton cord
- A metal bead making tool. You can find this at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.
- Razor (not pictured)
Start by conditioning your clay. Roll out two skinny tubes and attach them at the middle by rolling them together until they "fuse."
Poke your clay bead in the center and begin squishing your bead onto the metal tool. Don't worry if it looks all limpy and weird, it will all come together in the next step.
After you get the clay all the way onto your bead making tool, use the palm of your hand to roll out any imperfections and to make it smooth. Wiggle the metal tool around until you have a nice size hole. Carefully remove the clay bead and shape it into a half circle shape. Bake your bead according to clay directions. Once the bead is done, use the razor to slice off a tiny bit of each end to make it look clean. You will want to do this before your bead completely cools.
Such an easy and simple statement piece! I had so much fun making this that I think I will make a few more with bright and bold colors next.

Aaah, thanks for sharing! This is really neat. I actually picked up a couple packets of clay to try your tutorials out with, but they're still sitting in a bag in my car. I think I'll actually bust them out and make this necklace over the weekend!

Very cute! I bought some polymer clay yesterday at Hobby Lobby because after seeing so many of your posts, I've been itching to work with clay again. I made some pumpkin earrings for Halloween a couple years ago, and for some reason, haven't done anything since. Time to play again! :)

Hey, I have a question :) can polymer clay be sprayed metallic?
What brand of polymer clay do you suggest? I've never worked with any before but this is supper cute so I want to try.

I tried this tutorial today as well as the ombre beaded necklace. The ombre beads worked out just perfectly and I am really happy with them. But the half moon just doesn't seem to want to stay fused where the two colors meet.
I have made three in total now. I tried making the tube thicker and not touching it until it was 100% cool. But still once i pick it up and try and wear it, where the two colors meet, it just snaps in two. I made sure they were really well mashed together and also blended some of each color into each side, attempting to make it more rigid.. but to no avail.
Any ideas on why this might be happening? Can i make a little band to wrap around and hold the sections together and re-bake?
