What you will need:
- 2 cups of dry roasted almonds
- 1/3 cup of unsweetened coconut flakes
- 1/2 tsp of sea salt
- Place all of the ingredients into a food processor (if you do not own a food processor its a great little kitchen item to have).
- Turn your food processor on high and let it run for about 10 minutes. Half way through you will start to wonder how in the world this crumbly mess will turn into almond butter but trust me.
- Check your almond butter at 10 minutes. It should start to transform into a chunky butter at this point. If you like smooth almond butter let your processor run until it is nice and creamy.
- Scoop out your fresh almond butter and place in an airtight container or jar.

Yummy! That sounds amazing, thanks for sharing the recipe!
This sounds fantastic! Almond butter is so good for us too, will have to try :)
Hey Lindsay,
how many cups can your food processor hold? I tried to do this on my 12 cup processor, and it never got to the point of being creamy, it was just like wet sand! :(
I do love almond butter... I'm tempted to see if anyone I know has a good food processor so I can try this! ('hey, let me use your food processor and i'll make you some almond butter' sounds like a good way to approach a friend! bahaha)
T.Stern- My food processor can hold about 3-4 cups. My suggestion wold be to let it run a little longer next time. Try processing it for 20 minutes. It will turn into butter sooner or later :)
So easy! Love it.
that's awesome!! thanks!
OMG Lindsay THANK YOU! I never thought about making my own, and I am obsessed with how delicious and healthy almond butter is! I will give this a try :)
Wow, I need a food processor now. I seriously will make this the second I get one. Thanks for posting this!! I had no idea it was that easy.
We are almond nuts (haha) too - love almond milk & almond butter. I've never tried making it but the coconut sounds amazing!
ooo im trying that! i love almond butter!
I love almond butter and this one sounds delish.
such a good idea! I just pinned this to my food board so I would remember:)
Ohh sounds delish! Saving this recipe right now.
Oh I want to make this! I've actually never tried almond butter but the coconut in it sounds delicious to me. And so much better than buying it!
YUM! Love almond butter!! Definitely going to try this!! Pinning now...
This looks delicious! I love almond butter!
Oooh yum. And super simple too!
I love almond butter but never thought of making it myself. Great photography too!
Oooooo for delicious!!!! I am so trying this! :)
Thanks Mama! :)
Oh, that sounds AMAZING! And super simple. Must try. Tomorrow.
do you even know how much i love these 2 things .... well, now you do ;) and to put them together like that??!! WOW!!! XO brynn
I'm making this tomorrow...thank you for sharing.
Done! I've made almond butter but not with coconut, and since I am a huge fan of coconut this sounds terrific! Thanks for the inspiration.
I am so excited - just splurged on a 9 cup food processor to replace my mini one because it just wasn't cutting it anymore - this will be one of the first things I make!
Does this recipe yield about 2 cups of almond butter?
Kate- this recipe makes about 1 cup of almond butter. You can always double or triple the recipe--I am a little jealous of your 9 cup food processor! How awesome.
Yum yum yum. Just pinned this, my kids will love it. Thanks for a healthy {not to mention easy!} recipe!
Oooh, yum. This looks so delicious! Cannot wait to give this a try. I love finding healthy recipes that look so tasty!
Looks so good!
OK, putting in on my "to-make" list!
Your aunt stephanie stopped by my blog and suggested that i pop over here and visit yours. so glad I did. i am loving all healthy, clean recipes...Oh and your bebe is one cutie:)
I can't wait to try this recipe. Almond butter is my new staple, since I've given up dairy, and I've been experimenting with it in everything.
I tried this tonight and OH my goodness! SO good! But with my not-so-awesome food processor it took about 40 minutes.... meh.
Found your site today via Natalie @ Nat your average girl. Loving your DIY's. Can't wait to try this! Looks great.
New follower! Amy Lee @ A Sweet Pea Thing
Can't wait to make this! How do you store this? In the fridge or at room temp?
YUMMY

ok first-your blog is amazing! so many new things learned from only...2? pages!!!
second- i heard that almond skin is harder to digest, when i make quick almond milk i soak them for 30 min minimum so it peals easily, probably would shorten mixer time cuz they tenderize. and its beautifully white.
gotta try this almond butter for the zucchini brownies!!!
Do you know if I can use something other than coconut? My son is allergic to coconut (and soy, peanut, wheat, dairy, egg, corn, sunflower, walnut, grape) I mentioned the others in case they were going to be the substitute. :-)
Made this today, EXCELLENT! I'm embarrassed to admit, but it took my food processor about 5 mins. on high with me holding it on the counter as it was " dancing" around. Lisa Rae, you can omit the coconut, it's adds a different flavor and actually, I plan to omit the next time I make this. Yummy!
This seriously changed my life tonight. Thank you!
This sounds great! what is expected life span if in air tight jar does it go in fridge?
This is so cool! I got a little frustrated after having to scrape down the sides like 10 times when it was still clumpy but then all of a sudden it simply churned into butter when I started it up again! Thanks for this!
hello. i'm trying to make this recipe today and i'm having a hard time. my food processor isn't the kind that you can turn on hi and leave running...you have to keep pulsing it for it to work. it's in the powdery consistency now but every time i scrape down the sides, after a couple seconds, it's back on the walls of the fp again...making me wonder if it's ever going to do anything else but powder. is this going to work?
do you leave this out or put it in the fridge?
Just made this to put into the zucchini brownies recipe! I had never made nut butter before, so I'm very pleased. I opened it up to scrape down the sides a few times, but by the time it turned into butter I figured that it had been unnecessary - it was all falling down on its own.
k, so i am trying every one of your recipes...ive made almond butter before but not with coconut flakes. I tried this last night, and it is so perfect!! soso good. i want to put it on everything!
I tried it with 1/2 tsp of salt. It was much too salty. I would recommend 1/4 tsp.
where do you store it in the fridge or cabinet? How long does it stay good for? I cant wait to try it!!
So easy and so wonderful! almond butter is amaziing with apples! Yummie, definitely have to make some soon!
I've been making this weekly since I discovered your blog about a month ago. Today though, I over roasted my almonds. What a disappointing, crumby lump! Another 2 cups in the oven now! Hope this batch turns out like the last few weeks! Love your recipes, by the way! I've made a few and they've been huge hits with my little guys and husband!
I eat this every day now. It is absolutely delicious and very satisfying. Thank you for such a great idea!
I am wondering how this should be stored? And how long does it last? Looking forward to trying this!

I can't stop making this! I go through a batch a week. Thanks so much for the great recipe.
Katie
How long will it keep and where should it be stored? I was thinking in a pint sized mason jar might work best for my uses. We are new to almond butter in our house. Thank you for posting this!

I am SO excited to make this!! Came across your blog from "Just Eat Real Food" on Facebook. My husband is hooked on almond butter but I'm just not thrilled with the price at the store. I can't wait. Quick question, and I'm pretty sure it's a stupid one and I know the answer, but just checking...would a vitamix work in place of a food processor?
I've heard of almond butter but never tried it. Does the coconut taste come through?
Did you hear me squeal? I just made some and it worked! I am beyond thrilled. :)
is the coconut necessary? Would it work with just almonds and sea salt?
can u use a blender instead of the food processor? or no?
I wouldn't recommend a blender, because it all clumps up around the blades at the bottom. I found this out the hard way trying to make homemade peanut butter. Also, if you have a food processor, make sure it's not an older one. Again, problems trying to make homemade peanut butter the same way as this recipe.
Oh my GOSH. I bet if you threw some cocoa powder in there it would taste like an almond joy...ON IT.
Great recipes. Many thanks. How long will Coconut butter and Almond Butter keep fresh in pantry for?
You have got me hooked! I love this way of eating almonds and adding it to my oatmeal and even on apple slices. Every time my jar is close to running out, I'm already up and blending away :) Thank you
We love this recipe and make it all the time. It is wonderful! I am wondering though, what brand of food processor do you use? I've tried 2 different ones and it either won't make it at all (centrifuges it to the sides and dry spins) or I have to add a couple tablespoons of almond oil. Even then, it's never smooth. Everyone on the internet talks about how easy it is to make almond butter, but for me, it's a pain in the BUTTer!!
great comment above ^^^^
Vicki- I use a Black Decker 8 cup food processor. I think it was $35! So nothing special over here ;)
