I SUCK at hard boiling eggs. I never seem to get it right. They either come out undercooked or so hard that you could bounce them like a ball. I am also always left with annoying little egg shells that stick to the egg when I try to peel off the shell.
SO this week for the Pin-tester series I tested a method that is supposed to make peeling eggs super easy. The pin came from an awesome site called theKitchn, which I would have most likely never discovered if it wasn't for Pinterest.
The method which can be found here says that if you add 1/2 tsp of baking soda to the water it will make the egg shell easier to peel. I followed a simple method for hard boiling the eggs, which I found in the comment section of the post.
Final verdict:
It worked! The egg shell slipped right off. What a neat little trick.
Max loved the shell free perfectly cooked egg too. From now on this is the only way I will hard boil my eggs.

I've been having issues too and was sure that the white was spose to completely come off w/ the shell and the only thing left over was the yellow.
I've tried salt in the water.
I've tried vinegar in the water.
I've tried salt and vinegar in the water.
Finally - start w/ eggs in cold water. Bring to a boil 3 min. Take off heat, put a lid on it and sit for 10-15min. Pour out and crack all the eggs, cover w/ cold water (ice too) and sit 10-15min. The cold water works it's way into and between the egg and shell - they come off so much more easily.

Great idea! I also find that if you roll the egg around gently on a hard surface to crackle it...it makes it easier to peel.
I used to be at mess. I recommend looking form Jamie Oliver's method. What made a difference in my life was buying only organic/fresh eggs.
neat, I will have to try it! I've also found using older eggs helps too- like a week or so old.
I saw this one! Glad to know it worked although my prob isn't with cooking boiled eggs it is with regular, sunny side up eggs. They never come out pretty! I've tested a few recipes from Pinterest lately that have been great!

This is such a neat idea....maybe on down the road you can set up a Mr. Linky to have everyone share their conquers/fails together! Excited about this tip because I always have issues with hard boiling eggs!

hmm...my issue is often with softboiled eggs...do you think it would work the same way?
The Procrastinator- I have never attempted to make a soft boiled egg but trying out this method for those is worth a shot

I had no idea... (knock on wood) I've been doing pretty good with mine lately, but I think I'll avoid the gamble and utilize your findings.

Oh man, I stink at these too! My father-in-law even bought me some sort of device that you put in the water to know when they are done (I think I lost it). Love this tip!

Omg, I'm glad I saw this post because I've been so frustrated with peeling my eggs forever. I'm going to definitely try this next time!
I'm going to test this. The older the egg the easier it peels. I'll give it a try with a couple new eggs. My mother always bought the eggs for Easter 2 weeks in advance so that they would peel easily.
Will have to give this a try, I have trouble peeling the eggs now with my hand not working right and the eggs usually end up being thrown out because they are a disaster! Hopefully this will work can't wait to try it!!!!
Found this on pinterest- what an amazing tip. I make hard boiled eggs every weekend for the week and never knew why sometimes the shells came off easily and other times they did not. I will definitely be trying this :)

I gave myself the mission to try out one Pinterest pin per day. I even have a board dedicated to the pins I do and the date they where completed. I have 2 favourite pins so far: No bake Strawberry IceBox Cake (http://www.sohowsittaste.com/2012/05/no-bake-strawberry-icebox-cake.html) and also No bake Energy Bites (http://gimmesomeoven.com/no-bake-energy-bites/). I have allot of other favourites, but those 2 are at the top of my list :)
If you want to know if an egg is done spin it. If it is done it will spin like a top. If you spin an uncooked eggs it wobbles.
Boil them up, turn off the heat, let set 12 minutes. You will have the perfectly cooked egg. Then there is something about putting them in water and shaking in cup and they outside comes off just fine and I posted it on facebook and heard comments from people I know that do it and it works.
