Skin Care Tip Of The Week *DIY herbal steam facial*

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Making your own herbal steam facial can be a wonderful way to not only benefit your skin but a great therapeutic and easy way to have a little spa treatment in your own home.

Herbal steam benefits :
  • Loosens debris and helps soften your skin
  • Gives you a deeper cleanse
  • Rejuvenating
  • Relaxing and therapeutic

What you will need:
  • A few different herbs depending on your skin type. You can purchase these at your local bulk health food store for cheap.
-Normal skin: lavender, lemon balm, elderflower, licorice root, nettle

-Dry/Sensitive/ Mature: camomile, basil, rose, lavender, cornflower

-Oily/Acne: comfrey, lemongrass, marshmallow root, peppermint, eucalyptus, licorice root

How to make you own herbal steam facial:

  1. Cleanse your face first.
  2. Decide what herbs you would like to use. I love the combination of licorice root and marshmallow root since I have oily skin.
  3. Boil a pot of water.
  4. Add herbs (3 tablespoons) to your bathroom sink.
  5. Transfer hot water to your sink. Make sure you plug it up beforehand.
  6. Cover your head with a towel and place your face about 6 inches abut the steam.
  7. Steam you skin for about 7 minutes.
When you are finished your skin will have a dewy refreshed appearance! You might just become addicted I am forewarning you.

This sounds lovely...I am wondering if it would help with sinuses! I suffer from sinus headaches anytime we get weather changes here in Florida which is only twice a year...HOT to not so HOT. I'm going to try this out. Thanks for the tips!

Wow, this sounds so cleansing...I am almost relaxed just imagining breathing in the scent of those herbs! I have oily skin and have tried so many different skin products but haven't yet found one that I am 100% happy with. Maybe this might actually do the trick!

Thanks for the tip!
